Anita Hodnett serves as Interim Dean of Student Health and Well-Being at ÁñÁ«app¹Ù·½ÍøÕ¾Èë, where she provides strategic leadership for initiatives that promote the holistic health, well-being, and success of students. Since joining ÁñÁ«app¹Ù·½ÍøÕ¾Èë in 2012, Anita has served in several leadership roles that have shaped and expanded the university's approach to student health and well-being. Prior to being appointed Interim Dean, she served as Director of Counseling Services, where she led initiatives to strengthen mental health support, expand access to care, and foster cross-campus partnerships that promote student success. Her commitment to cultivating a healthy and supportive campus community is also reflected in her service as Staff Ombuds where she supports staff employees by creating space for understanding and fostering constructive dialogue.
A proud first-generation college graduate, Anita earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and dual graduate degrees—a Master of Education and Education Specialist degree in Counselor Education with a concentration in Clinical Mental Health Counseling—from the University of Virginia. She has been a licensed mental health professional since 2006 and currently holds credentials as a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor Supervisor and National Certified Counselor. Before joining Elon, Anita worked in a variety of community mental health and higher education settings, supporting individuals and families across the lifespan as they navigated challenges, transitions, and personal growth. With over two decades of clinical mental health experience and a career dedicated to student well-being, Anita brings a student-centered approach to supporting student growth and success.
At the heart of her work, Anita centers compassion, authentic connection, and advocacy to support the well-being and development of the whole person. She is committed to cultivating a campus environment that supports the well-being and success of the Elon community.
