Day of Silence – April 17 /u/news/2009/04/16/day-of-silence-april-17/ Thu, 16 Apr 2009 20:22:00 +0000 /u/news/2009/04/16/day-of-silence-april-17/ Tomorrow, April 17, is Day of Silence, which is a national youth movement seeking to bring attention to the silence faced by the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered people and their allies in response to harassment, violence and persecution inflicted upon them.

This year’s Day of Silence is held in memory of Lawrence King, a 15-year-old who was killed in his school because of his sexual orientation and gender expression.

Think about the voices you are not hearing: What are you going to do to end the silence?

The event begins tomorrow morning and will end at 4 p.m. in the Multicultural Center.

Please use the card available via the link at the right tomorrow to explain your silence.

Yes, the fast for Darfur begins today, Wednesday at 8 PM, with a vigil at the clock outside Belk Library.

And remember we will have a table from 11-4 p.m. where you can sign the petition that tells us your name and what you are fasting so that we can send it to President Bush and the N.C. Senators, telling them that there is strong support from the people to be involved in ending the genocide (crisis).
And remember- donations are accepted, all profit goes to Genocide Intervention.

Peace

“Fast for Darfur” on Oct. 24-25 /u/news/2007/10/22/fast-for-darfur-on-oct-24-25/ Mon, 22 Oct 2007 13:36:00 +0000 /u/news/2007/10/22/fast-for-darfur-on-oct-24-25/ Begins: 8 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 24 (Vigil by: Belk Library Clock)
Ends: 8 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 25 (Breaking the fast by: West Area)

The Darfur Fast’s objective is to raise awareness about the genocide that is occurring in Darfur as well as having the money you don’t spend donated to Genocide Intervention. Genocide Intervention is an organization that directly gives aid to the Darfurian civilians.

Come to Moseley on Oct. 23 and 24 to learn more about what you can do.

And remember fasting doesn’t mean just food. One could give up a luxury item. In the past, people have given up shoes, facebook, the internet, their cell phone, coffee, etc.

So please come and join in the effort to help the Darfurian people!

And shirts ($5) will be sold… but we only have a limited amount with not a lot of popular sizes… so come early!

And remember, always:

Don’t stand by. STAND UP!

That is right, my friends, help stop the genocide in Darfur! Now you’re thinking ‘what can i do?’ Well that’s easy! Today, at Moseley there will be a table where you can donate a meal plan in order to help fund the peace keepers and refugees on the ground.

So remember, today in Moseley from 11-2 donate your meal plans to help stop the genocide. If you are curious where the money goes it goes to Genocide Intervention, which is the organization that directly assist the refugees.
