Senior Randy Gyllenhaal, a broadcast communications major, finished third in the Hearst Foundation Journalism Awards Program news broadcast competition.

Editors at The Pendulum were awarded Region 2 Mark of Excellence Awards by the Society of Professional Journalists for their reporting and photography.

Two students in the School of Communications were selected as ÁñÁ«app¹Ù·½ÍøÕ¾Èë's first recipients of the Scripps Howard Foundation Award.

The School of Communications advisory board will be making its spring semester visit Friday, April 3.

ÁñÁ«app¹Ù·½ÍøÕ¾Èë will host a one-day conference on Monday, March 9, that blends religion, film, politics, popular culture and the news business. Speakers from across the country will be on campus to discuss, as the title of the conference states, "Faith, Doubt, & The Media."

Ten teams participated in ÁñÁ«app¹Ù·½ÍøÕ¾Èë's 50/50 Film Festival this weekend, a project that required students to write, shoot, edit and finalize their short films in only 50 hours.

From the level of interest that many African-American male students show toward schooling, to a lack of adequate role models in high schools, leading voices from North Carolina historically black colleges and universities gathered Feb. 26 at ÁñÁ«app¹Ù·½ÍøÕ¾Èë for a panel discussion on how to address issues affecting minority participation in higher education.

The School of Communications has revised its curriculum to better prepare students for the breadth, depth and convergence of communications in the future.
