Multicultural Center welcomes Class of 2014 Watson and Odyssey Scholars

The Multicultural Center at ÁñÁ«app¹Ù·½ÍøÕ¾Èë on July 14 announced the Class of 2014 Watson and Odyssey Scholars, two programs with a history of bringing academically successful and motivated students to campus from North Carolina and across the country.

Prudence Layne named visiting fellow at Bader International Studies Institute

Prudence Layne, an assistant professor of English and coordinator of African/African-American Studies at ÁñÁ«app¹Ù·½ÍøÕ¾Èë, has been named one of four Visiting Fellows this summer at the Bader International Studies Institute at Herstmonceux Castle in Sussex, England, to teach a postcolonial Shakespeare class with field studies components.

“Diversity” has become a buzzword on college campuses that misses a larger point, said activist and BET personality Jeff Johnson, who visited campus Saturday for ÁñÁ«app¹Ù·½ÍøÕ¾Èë’s inaugural Diversity Leadership Conference. More should be done to foster greater community, he said, and responsibility for that rests with student leaders.
