In this series, Elon College, the College of Arts and Sciences is shining the spotlight on distinguished members of the Class of 2021 from a wide array of disciplines.

Six members of the Class of 2021 participated in a signing ceremony at Lindner Amphitheatre to formalize their participation in the service-year program offered by ÁñÁ«app¹Ù·½ÍøÕ¾Èë in partnership with local organizations. Six fellows who have completed their year of service were also recognized.

These funds will be used to support the Oglala Lakota Children’s Justice Center in its critical advocacy work on Pine Ridge Reservation.

At the annual Faculty/Staff Awards Luncheon on May 12, the Elon community honored faculty and staff members who are retiring this year.

Human Service Studies Lecturer Sandra Reid is the 2021 faculty recipient of the annual award recognizing community service. Two seniors were also recognized with the award Thursday.

ÁñÁ«app¹Ù·½ÍøÕ¾Èë students and a staff member were recognized for their leadership with awards sponsored by Omicron Delta Kappa, a national leadership honor society.

Sakin was honored by the Graham Police Department at a ceremony in Graham on March 24, 2021.

Members of the Periclean Scholar Class of 2021 have helped the Oglala Lakota Children’s Justice Center obtain more than $50,000 in funding to support its mission of supporting and advocating for abused Lakota tribe children.

Alexis Moore, assistant professor of physician assistant studies, and Dr. Judy Esposito, associate professor of human service studies, presented research on the importance of teaching empathy and critical thinking skills to physician assistant (PA) students. Abstract co-authored with Dr. Cynthia Fair, professor of public health studies and human service studies.

The Power & Place Collaborative's "Stories of Alamance County" were compiled by sophomore Honors Fellows and Human Service Studies seniors to share local voices and forge relationships with the Burlington community.
