Courtney Graham and Alex Moss graduated from ÁñÁ«app¹Ù·½ÍøÕ¾Èë this month having made a lasting contribution to their community while studying at ÁñÁ«app¹Ù·½ÍøÕ¾Èë. The duo are the first two alumni of Elon’s Civic Engagement Scholar program, which was designed for students looking to make a positive change by partnering with local organizations in need of assistance.

For Tim Porter, however, Lemonade Day means so much more, and the ÁñÁ«app¹Ù·½ÍøÕ¾Èë senior believes what kids have already learned through his efforts will stay with them forever.

Three of North Carolina’s most influential voices in higher education gathered Wednesday, Feb. 9, for a panel discussion at a civic engagement conference on ÁñÁ«app¹Ù·½ÍøÕ¾Èë’s campus. Their message was simple: state and federal lawmakers should preserve financial aid for students in the ongoing recession, and to stay competitive in a global economy, schools must widen access for those who want to pursue college degrees.

Elon junior receives Newman Civic Fellows Award from Campus Compact

ÁñÁ«app¹Ù·½ÍøÕ¾Èë junior Amber Mathis has received a Newman Civic Fellows Award from Campus Compact, a national organization that aims to improve community life and to educate college students on civic and social responsibility. She is one of 135 students from 30 states to receive the award.

Campus chapter of Habitat for Humanity celebrates milestone

Students and staff from ÁñÁ«app¹Ù·½ÍøÕ¾Èë gathered May 1 in Graham, N.C., for the dedication of the 20th Habitat for Humanity home built by Elon volunteers since the international nonprofit program first established a chapter at the university in 1989.

Shaw University in Raleigh has requested ÁñÁ«app¹Ù·½ÍøÕ¾Èë's assistance for helping to clean up from the damage caused by the tornadoes earlier this month. The Kernodle Center for Service Learning and Community Engagement has a tornado relief service trip planned for Saturday, April 30.
