Jim Exum selected to serve on IOLTA Board of the N.C. State Bar

James G. Exum, Jr., former Chief Justice of the North Carolina Supreme Court, member of the ��app�ٷ��վ�� Law School Advisory Board, and Distinguished Jurist-in-Residence at Elon Law, has been appointed by the North Carolina State Bar Council to serve on the Board of Trustees of the North Carolina State Bar Plan for Interest on Lawyers’ Trust Accounts (NC IOLTA).

Sports and Entertainment Law panel features attorneys representing professional and collegiate athletic associations

On November 5, five attorneys spoke with Elon Law students about the practice of sports and entertainment law and the skills needed to excel in the area. The October 29 edition of North Carolina Lawyers Weekly addresses concerns raised by Gaylord in his article, "The North Carolina Supreme Court in 2010: Is it Time for Reform," which was published by The Federalist Society for Law and Public Policy Studies on October 26.

Exum, Jr. spoke on behalf of the law school to recognize the extraordinary achievements and significant contributions in the law of The Honorable Harry C. Martin, former Associate Justice of the North Carolina Supreme Court and the first Chief Justice of the Eastern Band of the Cherokee Nation.

Student group hosts presentation on estate planning for LGBT community

On November 9, Lennie Gerber, a High Point, N.C. attorney specializing in estate planning for the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) community, delivered a presentation at Elon Law through an event hosted by OutLaw, a student organization raising awareness about LGBT legal issues and fostering an accepting and supportive environment for the LGBT community at the law school and in the greater legal community.

Law students serve as judges in national debate competition of African-American honors programs
